Another great stride for another Ghanaian creative (Applied Arts discipline)
Ghanaian architect David Kojo Derban and his collaborators AP Valletta, an architectural restoration firm from Malta recieved an award from the Architectural Review AR for their restoration proposal for the Osu Salem Presbyterian Boys School restoration project.
The project won in the Old and New category and was one of two in the Highly Recommended category.
The award was recieved last week at a ceremony in Milan during the Milan Design Week.
The Osu Salem Presbyterian Boys school is a 170 year-old building built by the Basel missionaries in Accra. It played a symbolic role as training grounds for high Christian moral values in the Osu Presbyterian community and a model for Ghana’s present educational system.
Architect David Kojo Derban, a member of the Ghana Insitite of Architects and an passionate advocate for saving heritage building in Ghana said that this award was an indication that from the point of view of World heritage , Ghana possessed a wealth of architectural heritage that deserved governments attention. This sector could positively impact Ghana’s development agenda and consequently boost its economy through urban tourism.
The feeling of the “Black Star Experience” is certainly in successes as this! Congratulations architect David Kojo Derban for making the Ghanaian creative space get this recognition!
