Ghana Culture Funding Scheme

Ghana Cedis

GCF advocated and earned the opportunity to demonstrate another innovative partnership relationship with government. The Forum became an avenue for the disbursement of funding support from the then Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the Government of Ghana for the programmes and projects of our members.
In preparing us for this assignment, GCF developed a Fund Disbursement Mechanism on behalf of its members, to ensure transparency, accountability, monitoring and evaluation of how the allocation is disbursed and utilized. The funding document, published on GCF website, provides an indication of the process and guidelines for the mechanism.
The Mechanism included the formation of a Grant Committee that oversees a very open and transparent process, which is in tune with the character of GCF. A call was made for members to submit proposals for the award of grants based on the merits of the application and the adherence to the fund disbursement guidelines. A total of eight hundred and ten thousand Ghana cedis (GHS 810,000.00) of the GoG allocation was earmarked for grant disbursement in support of members’ projects. This amount was disbursed by the Grants Committee within three call cycles (2015, 2016 and 2017).

Ghana's rich tapestry of music, dance, and storytelling is under threat. Timeworn traditions fade, silenced by the echoes of progress. But at the Ghana Culture Forum (GCF), we're weaving a brighter future, thread by thread.
