Akwaaba Festival 2025

Akwaaba Fest

Akwaaba Festival here again

This year’s Akwaaba Festival, the three-day event that shines the spotlight on different aspects of Ghanaian culture, is set to happen from March 6 to March 8 at the National Theatre.

According to Joe Osae of Ceejay Multimedia, the man who founded the festival in 2022 and has directed it since then, awareness of the multi-pronged programme has been consistently growing. He is therefore looking forward to a good turn-out at this fourth edition.

Activities lined up for Akwaaba Fest’25 include exhibition and sale of Ghanaian art and craft, traditional textiles and fashion accessories, local beverages, a food bazaar and lots of fun events from 10.00am each day at the forecourt of the National Theatre.

There will be free live musical performances by courtesy of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) on March 6 and March 7 to spice up the atmosphere while the exhibitions and sales go on.

The musical bash is being co-ordinated by MUSIGA’s Greater Accra Secretary, Bright Appiah Quaye, also known as Joe Wizzy. According to him, MUSIGA is excited about collaborating once again with Ceejay Multimedia  since the festival is a prominent forum for the musicians to show everyone what they can do.

Acts scheduled to perform include Bongofari, Aklerh, Friction of VIP, KayBlez of ‘Chochomucho’ fame, Abochi, King Soldier, Riq Garna, Edith Avor, Beatrice Quaye, Albee, Lady Pat, PJ, Nyornuzaze, Black Mezziah, Abooza and 2 Black 2 Strong Dancers.

“We are happy to provide arts practitioners of all persuasions a useful  platform to present their capabilities to the public. It is a practically wonderful forum for nurturing our cultural landscape,” the Ceejay Multimedia boss said.

Akwaaba Fest’25 will kick into high gear from 7.00pm on March 8 with the specially-packaged

Akwaaba Night show in the main auditorium of the National Theatre. Well-known musician, Bessa Simons and his Bessa Band, will keep patrons entertained with thrilling made-in-Ghana music.

Other activities billed into the Akwaaba Night presentation include a Wear Ghana Fashion Show where professional models and celebrities will take to the runway and show off well-cut clothing put together by  experienced fashion designers.

There will also be the Black Star Awards component where special honours will be conferred on some individuals for their noteworthy contributions to the general advancement of Ghana’s  tourism and culture.

Akwaaba Fest’25 is under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration; Ministry of Trade & Industry; Ghana Tourism Authority; National Commission on Culture and the National Theatre Executive Board.
